Final Club meeting- with food!!

Our last club meeting for fall quarter will be next week, December 3, 5pm in NR room 106 (our new Interp room, see previous post.)

We have food leftover from Robbins Crossing, and may order a few pizzas. Bring your quote ideas for the wall mural, as well as program ideas for winter quarter (trips, speakers, etc.)

Local History Program

This Sunday, November 16, Ann Cramer, Archeologist from the Wayne National Forest will be doing a presentation on "Heritage Resources of the Wayne National Forest" at the Athens County Historical Society (on Court St. in Athens) from 2-4pm. This would be a great opportunity to learn some local history, which will help you in other classes (like Historical Perspectives).

The cost is only $2/student, and there will be free refreshments served. Great opportunity!

Wish I could go myself, but I'll be in the last performance of "Messiah on the Fridgidaire" at Stuarts Opera House (another great opportunity, if your looking to see some good local theater!)

Interp gets a new "Home Base"

We were recently granted approval to turn NR 106 (across from the prep room) into an Interpretation setting. This will allow me to "unload" a bunch of magazines and materials from my crowded cubicle, give the club a new meeting space, and more visible presence in the NR building (for Discover Hocking tours, etc.)

The club is discussing ways to decorate and use the room, including a mosaic mural of pictures and quotes along the back wall. If you have suggestions for a quote and an associated illustration, please send them to me. This includes all current and former students! We'd love to have several dozen ideas to pick from, and a great diversity of sources (quotes, music lyrics, poems, images, etc.)

Seein' Stars

If you want to take a look at some heavenly bodies (you KNOW what I mean!), stop by the College Green at Ohio University this Saturday night (Nov. 8), starting at 7pm. The SE Ohio Astronomical Society will be viewing Jupiter and the moon, and maybe some other celestial objects (weather permitting).

On Sunday night (Nov. 9), the group will be presenting a program about telescopes and viewing equipment at the Athens Public Library, just off Rt. 33, behind Bob Evans, starting at 7pm. I'm sure there will be some viewing that night as well, if the weather cooperates.

Return to the Arc of Appalachia

If anyone is interested, there is a "team" of students heading back towards the Arc of Appalachia Preserve this weekend (Nov. 8-9) to assist them in removing an unwanted building as a part of their "rewilding" efforts. The Intro trip stopped there this fall, and were very impressed. This is certainly a worthy effort, and they can use our help!

Sign up at the Interp Club meeting this Wednesday, 5pm in the Clubhouse, or let me know if you are interested. We will be car-pooling, as I am unable to attend and drive a school van. If you can drive, and take some folks with you, that would be great!
