En Roulant!

Remember paddling on the voyageur canoe in the Intro to Interp class? Well, the team is looking for some help this summer, which would be perfect for someone living in the Cleveland area and in need of a practicum. The work would be over several weekends during the summer, and could add up to the necessary 80 hours for a practicum. Plus... you get to paddle, sing, laugh, and become a "pork eater" for a few months!

Job for Grads

In the interest of "equal time", another job is available for graduates, with a quickly approaching deadline (April 6). Hamilton County Parks (Cincinnati area) is looking for a part-time Naturalist (3o hours/week, $14.55/hr.!)

If you are interested, contact Adam McCosham or Susie Edwards at 513-563-4513. Please note that the job qualifications include an Associate's degree very much like our own. Our grads are creating demand for Hocking folks (I hope!)

Intern opportunity with National Park

Just got an email from Rick Perkins at Hopewell Culture N.P. in Chillicothe. He is looking for a seasonal ranger for this summer. It would be a very full-time, paid position (cool hat, too!), but needs to go to a current student (sorry grads!)

If you are interested, contact him at 740 774-1126, or email

Keep Looking UP!

Greetings from Pokagon State Park in Indiana! Gary, Zig and I are "retraining" for our NAI Certified Interpretive Trainer status, and having a great time!

If you would like to see something amazing, look for the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle docked together over the next few nights. We watched it fly overhead tonight for about 2 minutes- very cool!

End of the Quarter Bash

Our last Interp Club meeting for the quarter will be held next Wednesday, March 11 at 5pm in NR 106. Join us for a fun night of pizza and more! We'll also look at activities and possible field trips for spring, and maybe try some improv. entertainment. Invite all of the Interp folks (and potential interp folks) you know. Let's send winter quarter off with a bang!

Lots of Interp this weekend

In addition to the Maple Sugar program (below), there are several other Interp presentations you can attend this weekend. Come out and support your fellow students!
  • Rendville- Historical Perspectives students will be sharing information about this unique little town, including a walking tour and a possible pot-luck meal
  • Airplane Hollow- travel to the site of a 1941 military airplane crash and meet some of the people that were there.
  • Lake Hope- join students on a night hike along the Furnace Trail.
For times and locations, visit the Interp calendar below, and join us!

Hocking Hills is SWEET!!

Maple Sugaring in the Hills is taking place this weekend, March 7-8, 12-4pm at Old Man's Cave in the Hocking Hills State Park. Come and learn about tapping trees and boiling sap, including a tasty sample!

Pat can also use volunteer hike leaders, who will guide visitors along the trail. If you are interested, show up at Old Man's Cave on Saturday and/or Sunday by about 10am for training. Should be a great time, including extra credit for selected Interp classes, a great opportunity to get some interpretive practice, and a nice resume addition.
